However, if it is too bent or too small and has disrupted its function. Maybe you are experiencing penis deformity.

Penile Disorders You Need to Know

There are two penile deformities that you need to know about, namely:

Peyronie's disease

Peyronie's disease is a condition that forms a curved penis when erect. This condition can be accompanied by other symptoms, such as discomfort, pain, and swelling. In more severe cases, the shape of the penis can be curved sharply and cause sexual intercourse to erectile dysfunction. Although the cause is not known with certainty, this disease usually arises after the penis is injured, which then forms a hard plaque or lump on the penis. Peyronie's disease can be experienced by men of any age, but is usually experienced by men aged over 40 years.

Micropenis

Micropenis is the term for the condition of the penis is smaller than the size of the penis in general. Penis size is said to be smaller than normal if its length is less than 1.9 cm in infants, less than 6.3 cm in children aged 9-10 years, and less than 9.3 cm in adults. Micropenis is a rare penis deformity. There are several factors that are known to cause this condition, including the low production of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) during early pregnancy. One of the functions of the hCG hormone is to stimulate the growth and development of the testes associated with penis size. In addition, micropenis can also be caused by chromosomal disorders, such as androgen insensitivity syndrome, Klinefelter's syndrome, and Down's syndrome.

Management of penile deformities

In general, there are two ways of treatment to overcome penile deformities, namely surgery and without surgery. In Peyronie's disease, treatment without surgery is done by giving injections of the drug directly into the penis. The aim is to soften scar tissue, reduce pain, and improve the shape of the penis. The decision for surgery will usually be made after 1-2 years, because it is expected that the condition will improve by itself without surgery. As for micropenis, the treatment can be done by giving an injection or testosterone ointment to the penis to trigger growth hormone. Several studies have shown that this method is quite effective in children. But in adolescents and adults, its effectiveness is unknown. When treatment with this technique does not work, surgery can be done. Penile abnormalities should not be taken lightly. If you feel you have a penis deformity or see changes in the shape of your penis, don't be ashamed to consult a urologist. The faster the diagnosis is made, the faster you get treatment.
